Headache/Migraine

There is now a good basis of scientific evidence which suggests that acupuncture has a positive effect on migraines. The most recent German research trials confirm what we acupuncturists have known for a long time. In my own clinical experience I have found that acupuncture, not only relieves the frequency and intensity of attacks, but in many cases surpasses the effect of medication.

People choose acupuncture to help with their migraines or headaches for a number of reasons: Sometimes it is because medication has proved ineffective, or the sufferer wishes not to rely so much on medication. Sometimes it is because this condition can seriously affect family and working life. Migraines can be extremely debilitating and unpredictable, showing no distinct pattern. Sometimes they are triggered by stress or by disruption of sleep patterns. Quite often as I work with my patients I am able to see a common pattern in the occurrence of symptoms where my patient has not,

and I am able to pitch the treatment accordingly.

If you decide to begin a course of acupuncture, I will initially ask you to see me weekly until we have established a reduction in the level of attacks. At this stage we will work towards gradually spacing out your treatments until only the occasional 'top up' is required. I will not ask you to stop your medication if you are reliant on it, as I have found that my patients do this of their own accord once they are experiencing the benefit of acupuncture.
